PERFECT GAME CBL
Cooperstown splits Sunday
The Cooperstown Hawkeyes split a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League doubleheader with the Watertown Wizards, losing the first game, 4-1, and winning the second, 5-4, Sunday before an announced attendance of 417 at Doubleday Field.
Both games went seven innings.
One-out doubles in the seventh inning by Gaby Ramirez and Delhi graduate Luke Burns produced Cooperstown's run in the first game. Burns recently joined the Hawkeyes.
Losing pitcher Conor Kerins allowed three runs over five innings. Watertown's Erick Gaylord hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give Watertown a 3-0 lead.
The Hawkeyes rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in the second game to take a 5-4 lead.
Burns' double to right pulled Cooperstown to 4-3, and he scored on Alex Meadow's single to center to tie it. Meadow took second on an error and scored the go-ahead run on Nate Izzo's single to left.
Cooperstown (14-10), which is off today, plays at Amsterdam at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
